Guides

NVidia > ATI btw. :)

I think only the minority know how to update their drivers properly. By properly I mean the best possible way to ensure that the driver will work as it is supposed to be. So you think you’re not doing it 100% right? Continue reading.

What issues can this method solve?

  • Low FPS
  • Graphic glitches
  • Game is not launching
  • Definitely some more, but my brain is still not 100% up and running in such a early Sunday. :P

What do we need?

  • Driver Sweeper – When you uninstall your graphics driver, not all files will be deleted completely. These may interfere later. This tool deletes them all. Install it.
  • Graphics Driver – NVidia users can download one here – ATI right here – Just select your operating system and the card you own.

As we have everything now we need, let’s start

  1. Uninstall your old graphics driver. Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > uninstall either your NVidia or ATI driver.
  2. Run DriverSweeper. You should see there a list with checkboxes. NVdia users check “NVidia – Display” and “NVidia – PhysX”. ATI users check “ATI-Display”.
  3. Click on the “Clean” button, confirm and it will start removing the remaining files.
  4. Reboot your computer
  5. Once Windows is up and running again, DON’T let it download the driver automatically via the Windows Update!
  6. Now install the graphics driver you downloaded previously.
  7. Reboot your computer

We’re done

You just updated your graphics card by the most cleanest and best way. Do it everytime to reduce any future issues you may experience.
