jump to repliesI'm on the verge of getting a #SteamDeck. I also want to use it as a desktop replacement occasionally. I want to connect it to a LG C2 TV.
Any recommendations for a docking station or should I just get the official one?

back to top@jasdemi I use a couple random ones I got off Amazon. One is always at my home TV and I have one for travel.
@jasdemi The official dock has trouble with external displays when waking the deck from sleep. Now I use a USB-C hub from Anker and it works like a charm.
@jasdemi I have lots of problems with the official dock, so I've taken to using a 20 dollar generic one from Amazon that is more reliable.
Note that desktop mode isn't going to be very good for development, but it's fine for typical word processing and browsing.
@jasdemi IMO the official Dock is overpriced for what it is and no more capable than cheaper alternatives you can get on Amazon. I just got a generic USB-C Hub with charger pass through, Micro SD card slot, Ethernet and HDMI built in which does the job. If you just search "USB-C Hub" or USB-C Dock you should find something appropriate for a reasonable price.
@jasdemi any dock that can handle usb-c would be great i use an Dell WD19S
@jasdemi do note, though it’s Hardware can’t really do it. HDMI output will not support 4K 120 Hz thanks to the HDMI form denying AMD and their push so they could support it with a new driver.
@yuukayuuka That's fine. Only want to use the Steam Deck while docker for basic stuff like browsing, Word etc. Not gaming on TV.
@jasdemi then it’s definitely perfect for that
@jasdemi Official dock is nice, but I do occasionally have issues with HDMI failing to wake the monitor from sleep.
The difference in price can be explained by the fact you get an extra power supply.
I tend to warn everyone who asks about this, that the Deck doesn't do full disk encryption, so I'd be careful with what I kept on the desktop. There are KDE vaults (I think they're called) but I've not really looked into those to date.
@jasdemi for my desktop needs, I use a tiny dock bar similar to this:

It has the advantage of being ultra portable. Works nicely.
(Can't comment on the genuine Valve dock as it is not available in my non-EU country)
I bought the official one and it's okay. Problem is, can't use my Steamdeck with bumper and docking station, because the bumper makes the deck to "thick".
But maybe

has a station that fits better for you.
@brodulf Thanks. Ordered the JSAUX 6-1 docking station.
Great. Hope you get the right station and won't be disapointed. Maybe you can give us (=me) a short review. 😁
I discovered the one you ordered to late, got mine original one weeks before. ☹️ To have extra SSD would be at great thing. Have replaced the internal 1TB with a 2TB last week.
